Cashew will accrue Zambia revenue as much as Copper does – Mukumbuta

The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) is optimistic that the cashew industry once established will earn the country as much revenue as copper does.

CEEC Director General Likando Mukumbuta says the commission has established that roasted cashew nut is actually trading at a higher price than copper at US$ 6,000 per ton on the international market.

Likando MukumbutaMr. Mukumbuta has told QTV News this means that the revenue Zambia will be accruing from cashew nut production in the next five years will be able to compete with that of any mine in the country.

He notes that this is especially that the global market is still salivating for cashew as evidenced by the current global production.

Mr. Mukumbuta states that it is for this reason that the CEEC believes the cashew industry is a sleeping giant which Zambia must take advantage of.

He says this is particularly that Zambia is one of the few unique countries that is able to grow a coastal crop such as the cashew, inland.
