BETUZ welcomes directive on confiscation of phones from pupils

Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has welcomed government’s directive for school managements to confiscate cell phones found in possession of learners in schools.

BETUZ Spokesperson Kabika Kakunta says the move will help learners to concentrate on their education instead of spending a lot of time on their phones.Cell phone

Mr. Kakunta notes that cell phones have negatively affected the concentration of pupils on their education which has resulted in pupils struggling to obtain good academic results.

He has since advised parents to stop giving their children cell phones while in school, but wait until they have complete their secondary education.

Mr. Kakunta says the Union is saddened that some students are protesting because the school managements had confiscated the phones following the directive by the Ministry of General Education authorizing school managements in the country to confiscate cell phones found in the possession of learners.
