MMD casts doom on early referendum on expanded Bill of Rights

The Felix Mutati led MMD has cast doubt any referendum held now on the expanded Bill of Rights would yield any different results to the one held last year.

National Secretary Raphael Nakachinda says his party is of the view the Country lacks the required civic education among the citizens to have a successful referendum.

Mr. Nakachinda states that this means  that the same kind of response people gave to the referendum last year would be the same response they would render to any other fresh referendum.

In an interview with QTV News Mr. Nakachinda says the MMD is thus proposing that the concentration of government and the other stakeholders now should be more on civic education.

Mr. Nakachinda notes that his party thus expects the civil society to take up the responsibility of demanding from government that it focuses on sensitizing citizens on the referendum.

He says this is in order that when time comes for holding the referendum on the expanded Bill of Rights people will have been well informed to make the right decision.
