The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has justified the boycott by its Members of Parliament of President Edgar Lungu’s address to Parliament.

Secretary General Stephen Katuka says the UPND is a democratic party which allows its members including Members of Parliament to make their own decisions.

Mr. Katuka has told QTV News in a telephone that this means that UPND MPs can boycott the presidential address as they did today if they find it necessary.

He says this is particularly that UPND MPs are aware of what is going on in the country are therefore free to do as they please.

Mr. Katuka could however, not state whether the party leadership had influenced the decision by the Members of Parliament to boycott President Lungu’s address referring further queries on the boycott to party parliamentary Whip Garry Nkombo.
