The Zambia Teachers Union (ZATU) has encouraged teachers across the country to help in sensitizing pupils on the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

ZATU Spokesperson Kangwa Musenga says it is clear from the recent statistics released by the United Nations that young people between the ages of 15 to 19 are the most vulnerable when it comes to HIV infection.

Mr. Musenga, who is also Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) General Secretary, says teachers are equal to the task of providing information to young people on HIV prevention.

Meanwhile, Mr. Musenga has encouraged young teachers to use this year’s Youth Day commemoration in reflecting on the role they have to play in national development.

He says the young teachers have potential to contribute to the growth of Zambia’s social and economic development.
