Zambia in solidarity with international community in war against terror – Kalaba

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba says Zambia stands with the international community in the fight against terrorism.

Speaking during the Zambia-European Union political dialogue in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Kalaba says this is because an attack on one country has an effect on all other countries.

He says in addition to terrorism, there also a number of conflicts in Africa which threaten the continent’s peace and security.Harry Kalaba 1

Mr Kalaba states that this calls for the urgent need to put resources and expertise together and to stand united in order to prevent further conflicts on the continent.

He says Zambia believes that this can be achieved through effective conflict prevention and management mechanisms, preventive diplomacy and political dialogue.

And Mr. Kalaba has reiterated that government stands firm against all practices of corruption and will continue to acquire best practices from the European Union’s vast experience to combat the vice.

And EU head of delegation to Zambia, Alessandro Mariani disclosed during the same meeting that following last year’s political dialogue, a new 25 million Euros programme under the 11th European Development Fund will be signed later this year towards the fight against gender based violence in Zambia and child marriages.

And Mr. Mariani says the EU also welcomes the opportunity to receive an update from the Zambian government on the consultations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and on the Economic Partnership Agreement.
