Kampyongo orders probe into Heroes stadium disturbance

Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has directed the Inspector General of Police to investigate the cause of the disturbance at the National Heroes stadium last evening during the match between Zambia and South Africa which resulted in Police firing teargas canisters.

Mr. Kampyongo has regretted the incidence, but was quick to state that it was not the intention of the Police to disturb the game which was stopped for some minutes as a result of the choking teargas smoke.Kampyongo

He has since appealed to soccer fans to observe law and order at all times even as they get excited with the success the junior Chipolopolo are recording.

Mr Kampyongo says Police will intensify security ahead of the final to be played on Sunday.

He has pleaded with soccer fans who do not have tickets to follow the match on television and stay away from the stadium.

Players and spectators who included President Edgar Lungu were affected by the teargas fired by police in an attempt to disperse unruly soccer fans who wanted to force their way into the stadium without tickets.
