CSPR questions govt’s Chipata e-voucher claim

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has questioned claims by the government that some farmers in Chipata district made double claims on their e-voucher cards.

CSPR Eastern Province Coordinator Maxson Nkhoma tells QTV News via telephone that claims by the Chipata District Commissioner that some farmers have knowingly collected farming inputs twice using their e-voucher cards are outrageous and ill-conceived.

Mr. Nkhoma says if left unchecked, this has the potential to disfranchise some farmers from redeeming their farming inputs considering that government has put a temporal ban on the distribution of the farming inputs in the district.

He has wondered how banks could deposit monies twice in the accounts of some farmers without detecting such an anomaly.

He says it is a well-known banking practice for any bank to reverse any transaction which was erroneously done within 24hrs of making such a transaction.

Mr. Nkhoma adds that agro dealers from whom the inputs where being collected ought to have seen through the system that the same e-voucher cards were being used to redeem farming inputs twice and should have reported such an abnormally before going ahead to process the transactions.
