MISA finds no merit in delaying enactment of ATI

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) says there is no merit in the excuse government wants to use to delay the enactment of the Access to Information Bill into law.

MISA Zambia chapter Chairperson Helen Mwale says MISA does not think that the Access to Information being part of the expanded Bill of Rights which failed during the referendum last year, can stop the enactment of this Bill into law.

Ms. Mwale states that MISA believes that the issue of the Access to Information Bill can be easily dealt with at Cabinet level and brought to Parliament for enactment.

In an interview with Qfm News, Ms. Mwale notes that MISA does not understand the argument of delaying the passing of legislation on access to information.

Ms. Mwale says MISA believes that Zambians are entitled to their rights whether or not the expanded Bill of Rights was adopted through a referendum or not.

She states that MISA therefore demands a quickened process of enacting the Access to Information Bill into law
