Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba, insists they are not under pressure to emulate Zesco United’s success in the 2016 Caf Champions League.

Zanaco toiled to the pre-group stage of the 2017 Champions League after beating APR of Rwanda 1-0 away on Saturday, to advance from the preliminary round by the same aggregate score line.

The win eased the pressure on Zanaco, who came into the competition barely six months, after Zesco became the first Zambian club to reach the semi-finals of the same competition.

“As Zanaco, we don’t look at other teams, we have goals that we have set for ourselves,” Numba said.

“The success of Zesco is totally different from us and doesn’t matter to us. All we need to do is remain focused so that we achieve our goals.

“I think Zesco performed very well, we just have to applaud them for the excellent work they did.”

Next stop for Zanaco are Young Africans of Tanzania whom they visit in the first leg on March 11 in Dar-es-Salaam.

Incidentally, Young Africans are now coached by ex-Zesco coach George Lwandamina.

Lwandamina guided Zesco to that debut Champions League semi-final finish before quitting the club in November to take up the job with the Tanzanian champions.
