NUPPEZ reacts to NUMSA’s recent threat

The National Union of Public and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) says threats by the National Union for Metal workers of South Africa(NUMSA) to campaign for the South African Government to cut trade ties with Zambia over the issue of the Post Newspaper in liquidation is an affront to the values of democracy and good governance.

NUPPEZ Vice President Nelson Mwale says the stance taken by NUMSA against the Zambia Government is a danger to both the Zambian and South African workers as their action if acted upon by the South African government will leave thousands of workers both in the formal and informal sector jobless.

Mr. Mwale says this may perpetuate poverty among the working class in Zambia.

He has since appealed to NUMSA to consult widely with Zambian Sister Unions in future before taking such a stance.
