The Southern Africa Cross Boarder Traders Association (SACBTA) says threats by the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMASA) to boycott Zambian goods and end South African trade with Zambia over the alleged harassment of the private media in Zambia should not be ignored.

SACBTA Zambia Chapter Secretary General Jacob Makambwe notes that while the boycott of Zambian goods and the cut in trade ties would affect both countries, this would have an adverse impact on Zambia.

Mr. Makambwe adds that this would also affect traders especially small scale traders that are exporting their products to South Africa.

Mr. Makambwe says it is therefore hoped that the threats will only remain as such so that the two countries can continue to do business together for the benefit of both countries.
