Lungu hailed over Zambia’s recognition of the ICC

President Edgar Lungu has been hailed for making Zambia’s recognition of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a tool for good governance public.

Opposition Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) leader Frederick Mutesa says his party believes that, in this statement, President Lungu referred to the ICC correctly.

Dr. Mutesa says the ZED has however taken note that President Lungu’s perceived concerns was that the ICC weighed more heavily against African leaders and governments in its jurisdiction.

In an interview with QTV News Dr. Mutesa states that he does not on the other hand personally think this seeming baseness by the ICC towards Africa should be surprising.

Dr. Mutesa says he has observed that it is in fact true that Africa still has challenges in relation to respect of rule of law and good governance.

He says he does not therefore agree that withdrawing Zambia’s membership to the ICC should be the solution as what he thinks is important is putting the Country’s house in order.

Dr. Mutes notes that this is especially that Zambia is part of the global community in which it has to interact with other countries.
