The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has denied backing the formation of the National Union of Private and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) which was recently launched to become the fifth teacher union.
FFTUZ Secretary General Lyson Mando says it’s unfair that the NUPPEZ is going round claiming it has the backing of FFTUZ.
Mr Mando says the FFTUZ is opposed to the formation of more teacher unions in the country and is instead encouraging teacher unions to consider merging.
He states that there is no need to create more unions if the voice of the labour movement is to be strengthened.
Mr. Mando adds that what is also worrying is that the NUPPEZ has gone rampage accusing existing unions of things they do not even have proof on.
