Zambia will never have test of time constitution – UPND

The opposition UPND says the country will never have a constitution that will stand the test of time as long Zambians themselves do not take charge of authoring the document.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the Constitution making process must follow the route that the people of Zambia have always demanded.

Mr. Kakoma says the UPND believes adopting the Constitution through the referendum is the only sure way the Zambian people will have ownership of the national document.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Kakoma has argued that the Parliamentary route being taken to review the Constitution will not reflect the aspirations of the Zambian people.

He notes that this is because the current composition of Parliament is lopsided and therefore is most likely to pass legislation that only suits the governing party.

Mr Kakoma states that the position of the UPND is therefore that the entire amended Republican Constitution be taken back to the people and put to a referendum vote.
