ICC has lost direction – VJ

Veteran politician Dr Vernon Mwaanga has charged that the International Criminal Court has lost direction for the purpose it was created.

The International Criminal Court was created to prosecute serious crimes against humanity.

Dr. Mwaanga explains that the reason why African countries have decided to pull out in en masse from the International Criminal Court is because it has been unfair to the African leaders.vj laughingstock

He says many African leaders are frustrated because the ICC has concentrated on discriminating against African leaders in carrying out its mandate departing from its intended purpose.

And Dr Mwaanga has welcomed President Edgar Lungu’s decision to consult widely on whether Zambia should remain as a member state of the ICC or not.

Dr Mwaanga says it is prudent that the Head of State consults before making a final decision.

Meanwhile Government has been cautioned against entertaining the idea of withdrawing Zambia’s membership from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Electoral expert MacDonald Chipenzi says government should not make an emotional decision out of frustration with regards the country’s membership to the ICC.

Mr. Chipenzi says regardless of the biasness the ICC has been accused of, there is no need for Zambia or any other African country to withdraw membership from the Court.

He tells QTV News that international organizations such as the ICC are meant to protect the citizens of the world from excess abuses by leaders.

Mr. Chipenzi says this means that citizens must be consulted if ever a need arises for any that a country to withdraw membership from the ICC.

He states that any government seeking to withdraw membership from the ICC is only doing so in order to perpetrate injustices on its own citizens.
