The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has called on government to take keen interest in addressing the challenges facing some mining companies in the country.

FFTUZ President Chingati Msiska says the recent happenings in the mining industry where some miners have stopped going work demanding for salary increment has serious impact on Zambia’s economy.

Mr. Msiska has told QTV News that the union is concerned with the current stoppages in the mining industry whilst the negotiations are still going on.

He says in as much as it is their democratic right to demand for a salary increment, it must be done in a transparent manner especially that the country is facing numerous challenges.

Mr. Msiska says there is need to go back to the drawing board and negotiate and agree amicably especially that the economy is biting.

He has since advised Labour Minister Joyce Nonde to follow up the matter and ensure that they supervise the issue so as to avoid protests.
