Simon Kabanda launches campaign for fresh referendum

A Constitution making expert Simon Kabanda has launched a vigorous campaign for a referendum to amend the bill of rights.

Mr. Kabanda says even as yesterday marked exactly one year since President Edgar Lungu assented to the amended constitutions, Zambians cannot celebrate because they need a whole lot new constitution as well as the bill of rights which did not go through because the referendum failed.

Mr. Kabanda notes that since government has indicated the possibility of another referendum, he thinks the campaign will help put pressure on government on the need for the country to hold a referendum on the bill of rights.

He adds that issue of the last referendum failing should not even come up because it was not prepared for it.

Mr. Kabanda says it is thus important for the country to begin preparing now so that the referendum is a success when the country holds it in the near future.

He has encouraged Zambians to support his campaign stressing that if the country holds a referendum, the amending of the bill of rights will work to their advantage.
