PIA refutes media reports of increased premiums

The Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) has advised the general public to ignore the information circulating in the media purporting to an increase in premiums on compulsory motor third party liability insurance for private and commercial vehicles by 100%.

PIA Communications Manager Doreen Silungwi says the insurance hike was illegal and such a general adjustment in premiums would have been formally communicated as insurance guidelines by the authority.

She is appealing to members of the public who may have already paid the unapproved premiums to claim refunds for the excess amounts paid for.

She also says that the public should report any instances where their claims for a refund are not approved beyond five working days to the authority.
