Government has been called upon to ensure that it reviews its final list of students selected to benefit from the students loans under the Bursaries Committee.

The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) is calling on the Ministry of Higher Education to re-screen the final selected list of students that will be on student bursary scheme to eliminate those children whose parents have used positions to access facilities meant to benefit the poor and vulnerable people.

ZCSD Executive Secretary Lewis Mwape has expressed concern that more than 60 percent of those who have been left out on the loan scheme might be poor and vulnerable and may not afford to meet the cost of university education.

Mr. Mwape says there is need for government to rethink and reconsider increasing the number of students to be included on the University bursary scheme.

He says it is shameful and evil on part of the bursaries committee to include some of the children from well-to do families leaving out eligible and legitimate people from vulnerable and poor families.
