28 families in Siavonga stranded after houses collapsed

About 32 houses in Siavonga District of Southern Province have been destroyed due to heavy rains leavening about 28 families stranded.

Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama tells QTV News via telephone that four houses have collapsed in Kanjebele, 20 in the fishing camp, four in Kaleya compound and four in Chief Simamba’s chiefdom.

Mr. Kanyama discloses that he has information that more houses are on the verge of collapsing.

He has urged some residents of Kanyelele compound to immediately vacate their houses that are on the verge of collapsing and find alternative accommodation.

He says he visited the area in question and saw that some houses are not stable and thus the need for them to vacate them before they collapse on them.

The Siavonga District Commissioner has since appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to come in and help the 28 families that are stranded in the district.
