ZCID wants Political Parties Act enacted

The Zambia Center for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) says the enactment of the Political Parties Act will help guide parties on how to conduct themselves.

Reacting to calls by some stakeholders for the deregistration of the UPND following last week’s riotous behaviour by its cadres at the Lusaka High Court, ZCID Executive Director Horrance Chilando says there is no need to deregister the opposition party.

Mr Chilando says there is need instead to speedy up the enactment of the Political Parties Act.

He says the issue at hand does not require the deregistration of the UPND, but a law guiding political parties on how they should conduct themselves when attending proceedings such as court sessions.

Mr. Chilando says the suggestion to deregister the UPND can bring about chaos in the country as not all people would agree with the deregistration.
