UPND denies banning MPs, Councilors from attending State Events

The United Party for National Development (UPND) says it never banned its Members of Parliament and Councilors from attending state functions.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has told QTV News that the party merely issued a set of guidelines meant to facilitate decision making among its Members of Parliament and Councillors.

Mr Kakoma says the guidelines were prompted by a realization that invitations to attend public events were meant to politically compromise its councilors and parliamentarians.

He has since advised UPND Councillors and Members of Parliament to exercise good political judgment when invited for state functions.

Mr Kakoma says there is need for them to assess each and every invitation, stating that the PF has a tendency of using such gatherings to infiltrate and destabilize the UPND structures.

The UPND has recently come under heavy criticism for purportedly banning its Members of Parliament and Councilors from attending state functions.
