Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has advised members of the public to pay attention to their personal security and safety during this festive season.

Mr. Kanganja says as people go about their business, criminally minded elements are also going about their business looking for an opportunity to take advantage of unsuspecting people for their valuables.

He has also advised people to drink responsibly as they celebrate and avoid abusing alcohol which may lead to their inability to reason properly.

Mr Kakoma adds that alcohol abuse is also known to be one of the leading causes of Road Traffic Accidents in the country.

He says to ensure that people celebrate in a peaceful environment; the Zambia Police Service supported by other security agencies have put in place security measures which include foot and motorised patrols as well as general vigilance in communities throughout the country to prevent crime.

Mr. Kakoma has also advised parents to guide their children during the festive season, noting that it is during such periods that police records a lot of juvenile delinquency.

He has further advised all those making cash transactions from banks and Automated Teller Machines (ATM) to always be alert and avoid exposing security information and monies withdrawn.

Mr. Kakoma has also advised Banks to put up strict security measures inside and outside banks to protect their clients.
