Parliament has approved a K7.4 billion supplementary expenditure for 2016.

Presenting the excess expenditure appropriation bill 2016, Finance Minister Felix Mutati says the bill has been prepared in accordance with article 203 clause 4 of the amended constitution.

Mr Mutati says of the K7.4 billion, a sum of K5.7 billion relate to payment of subsidies on fuel and electricity.

He says the remaining amount of K1.7 billion is for payments relating to the maintenance of the strategic food reserve under the Food Reserve Agency, provision of funds for the e-voucher system as well as the implementation of the Farmer Input Support Programme and the procurement of firefighting equipment.
