The Southern Africa Center for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has expressed concern that the standoff between President Edgar Lungu and UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has persisted.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says competition in a democracy is welcome but that it becomes a problem when people fail to compete democratically.

Mr. Cheembe says it must be appreciated by leaders that the August 11th polls are over and now is the time to put heads together in trying to find solutions to the many challenges facing the country.

He has observed the need for the two leaders to forget about their differences before the situation can result into a civil unrest where their supporters may rise against each other and destroy public or private property.

Mr. Cheembe says he is worried that despite months passing after the elections, these two leaders seem to be having issues with each other.

He reminds politicians that Zambia is bigger than any political party or individual.

He says it is for this reason that various stakeholders are contemplating on bringing leaders together and see how they can be helped in reasoning together for the sole purpose of developing the nation.
