LAZ condemn UPND cadres’ riotous behaviour at Lusaka High Court
The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has strongly condemned the riotous behavior that was exhibited by UPND cadres at the Lusaka High Court on Thursday.
LAZ President Linda Kasonde in a statement says the destruction of public and private property and the resultant intimidation of members of the judiciary, judiciary staff and members of the public is wholly unacceptable whether due to provocation or not.
Ms Kasonde says LAZ has also received information that UPND cadres were provoked by the police and that the police used live ammunition on the UPND cadres.
She says the association is still making inquiries regarding this information but that in the meantime, restates its position that the police must at all times conduct themselves fairly, professionally and within the confines of the law.
Ms Kasonde has also urged political party leaders who choose to ferry or invite their cadres to the court to offer them solidarity to advise their cadres to conduct themselves peacefully.
The LAZ President has also discouraged political parties from inviting multitudes of their cadres at the court hearings who in most cases attend in numbers that are beyond the capacities of most premises.
