Forty Five UPND cadres charged

police-in-mandevuForty five (45) UPND cadres were arrested in Lusaka yesterday have been charged with riotous behavior, causing malicious damage to property and assaulting police officers.

Homes Minister Stephen Kampyongo has told a media briefing in Lusaka that government finds the lawlessness exhibited by the UPND cadres extremely disappointing.

Mr. Kampyongo has warned that the wanton disregard of the established procedures for conducting public processions will not be tolerated.

He says government will not stand by and allow those who wish to disregard the will of the people disrupt good public order, the rule of law and civilized life in the country.

Mr. Kampyongo says he has since directed the Police to investigate the violence and destruction of yesterday’s riots at the Lusaka High Court thoroughly and bring to book those behind them.

The Minister has since assured the Chief Justice, all judges and officers of the Courts in the Country of better protection from what he has termed as unruly elements.
