Zambia one of the highly deforested countries

The Finnish government has expressed concern at the rate at which deforestation has continued taking place in Zambia.

Finnish ambassador to Zambia Timo Olkkonen says his Country has taken note that before the power deficits, Zambia had been losing up to 400, 000 hectors of forest per year.

Mr. Olkkonen says he has personally taken note of the number of trucks that move at night carrying charcoal in his recent travel from Mongu to Lusaka.

He says this clearly shows how Zambia is one of the highly deforested countries in the world.

Mr. Olkkonen states that Finland however remains ready to help Zambia reverse this situation.
