President Edgar Lungu says climate change is one of the most urgent and pressing matters that the African Continent is facing because of its negative effects on the developmental agenda.

The Head of State said this at State House this morning when he received letters of credence from the Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Morocco Saadiael Alaoui.

President Lungu says he fondly recalls the successful hosting, by King Mohammed VI and the people of Morocco, of the 22nd Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) in Marrakesh.

President Lungu says Zambia supports and holds in high esteem King Mohammed’s unwavering efforts to combat this challenge.

He says he looks forward to receiving King Mohammed at the end of the week and that he is confident that the two shall have fruitful discussions aimed at augmenting bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

He adds that the warm and cordial relations that exist between Zambia and Morocco are based on strong bonds of friendship, mutual respect and bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.

President Lungu says he is confident that the appointment of Ambassador Saadiael Alaoui to represent the government of the Kingdom of Morocco in Zambia will enhance the existing warm relations between Zambia and the Kingdom of Morocco.
