Nullified seats, indication August polls were unfair – Chikuse

Governance Activist Leslie Chikuse has charged that the nullification of some parliamentary seats by the High Court is an indication that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) did not conduct this year’s general election fairly.

Mr. Chikuse has told QTV that the ECZ should therefore ensure that all the issues that have been raised in the courts are addressed in future elections.

He has also suggested that a commission of inquiry be established to ascertain whether the ECZ’s alleged failure to manage the elections was out of incompetence, negligence, political interference and or corruption.

He says this is the time to seal all loopholes in the electoral process before holding any elections.

And Mr. Chikuse says the rulings of the High Court on election petitions has proved that the judiciary in Zambia is independent.
