SARW attributes inconsistency in mine policy to lack of wider consultations

The Southern Africa Resource Watch (SARW) has attributed policy inconsistency in the mining sector to lack of wider consultations with relevant stakeholders by government.

The Organization is of the view that if government engages relevant stakeholders in policy formulation and implementation, the country cannot witness the inconsistencies seen in the mining sector.

SARW Executive Director Edward Lange has told QTV News that it is good that government has realized that there were policy inconsistencies in the mining sector, and hopes that government will improve in this area.

Mr. Lange says it is unfortunate that the Private Sector is seen to be calling the shots in the mining sector because of lack of proper policies to enable the country get its share from the sector.

He says in order to improve on this aspect, there is need for the government to engage in extensive consultations with stakeholders in order to get a win-win situation.
