Govt cautioned against taxing small businesses to death

An entrepreneur has cautioned government against killing small business entrepreneurs as it considers expanding the tax base.

Patrick Mungo is advising government to ensure that while it considers taxing the informal sector for example, it should come up with corresponding measures to encourage growth in this sector.

Mr. Mungo has implored government to be mindful that most jobs in the informal sector are the only source of income for some households.

He says this means that while it is important for government to generate extra tax revenue from the formal sector, there is need to give this sector room to remain sustainable.
