Seven people die in road accidents in three provinces

Seven people have died on the spot in road traffic accidents which happened in three different provinces.

In North Western Province, four people died on the spot in an accident which happened at around 15:50 hours yesterday along M8 road at Kamasovu area in Mufumbwe district.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the development to QFM News in a statement that the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Duet Registration number LTB 2307 which was being driven by Emmanuel Tulumba aged 34 of Mufumbwe Boma hit a male Juvenile pedestrian identified as Rodger Mukwato aged five who was crossing the road and died on the spot.

Ms Katongo explains that after hitting the male juvenile, the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and later overturned killing three passengers who were on board while two others sustained injuries.

She says the deceased persons have been identified as Folosiya Matafwali aged 32, Sony Musumali aged 31 and James Shimaya aged 68, while the two injured are a female Juvenile aged three years and a male juvenile aged one year three months.

Ms Katongo says the bodies of the deceased persons are lying in Mufumbwe District Hospital mortuary, while the injured are admitted to the same Hospital.

She adds that the driver has been charged with four counts of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.

In another accident which happened in Solwezi District, one person died in an accident which happened at around 05:30 hours at Mitec area.

The accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Sprinter Registration number ACV 5718, Morris other names not known failed to keep to his lane and in the process collided head on with a Mitsubishi canter light truck Registration number ADD 8868 which was being driven by Daniel Kapatula aged 52 of Kamakechi area in Kasempa district.

Ms Katongo has further disclosed that due to the impact, one passenger on the Toyota Sprinter identified as Nelson Nyirenda aged 42 sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot while two others unidentified sustained serious injuries, while the driver has been charged with one count of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.

In Eastern Province, one person died on the spot yesterday at around 14:30 hours on Chisale gravel road, 1.7 km north off St. Francis Hospital.

Ms Katongo says involved was a cyclist identified as Clement Tonga aged 37 who was cycling a super star bicycle and in the process ,the fork of the bicycle broke whilst he was descending a hill and fell off the bicycle in the process, sustaining deep cuts on the forehead and died on the spot.

The body of the deceased is lying in St. Francis Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In Mpika of Muchinga Province, a female passenger aged 18 years identified as Alfonsina Mulenga of Chitulika Compound died after falling off a Trailer of a Tractor Registration number ALB 3530 with trailer number ALB 5147 T, property of Mpika Diocese which was being driven by Kenneth Wapachebo aged 42 of Mpika.
The accident happened around 16:30 hours on 27th November, 2016 within Mpika Township at small holdings.
