Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo says his ministry has continued to receive a lot of complaints from members of the public on the disproportionate mounting of traffic check points by police officers across the country.

Mr. Kampyongo has told Parliament that while these check points may be significant, these check points can be an inconvenience to motorists and can add to the high cost of doing business.

Mr. Kampyongo says it is for this reason he has directed the Zambia Police Service to rationalize the management of security and traffic check points without compromising compliance with traffic laws and regulations as well as public security.

He says to this effect, the police service has reduced on the number of permanent check points across the country from 81 to 40 strategic points.

He has also indicated that the police service may mount a traffic check point at any time or place given the current security situation in the country.
