Govt says Marriage Bill is ready

Government has disclosed that the Marriage bill which seeks to give a legal framework to the marriages is ready.

Ministry of Gender and Child Development Permanent Secretary Edwidge Mutale says the bill is expected to address key issues including matters relating to the registration of marriages among other things.

Ms. Mutale says the bill is yet to be tabled in parliament but is not sure if it will be tabled during this session.

The bill will also provide the age at which a woman should be married which will be accepted by everyone.

Ms. Mutale says the ministry is working hard to ensure that issues of marriages and child are fast tracked.

She says the bill will also help address the challenges arising from dual marriage laws, namely customary and statutory.
