Kampyongo urged to ensure police officers are professional

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has challenged the Home Affairs Minister to direct the police officers to operate professionally and execute their duties diligently.

FODEP Information and Research Officer Gilbert Chisenga says there is need for the police to ensure that the political playing field is leveled in the country.

Mr. Chisenga says police should make it conducive for all citizens to express their rights of freedom.

Mr. Chisenga noted that some police officers yesterday prevented a program on Radio Mano where it featured the Opposition United Party for National Development UPND officials.

He has since expressed concerned with the continued intimidation of the media by the Patriotic Front which they promised to respect freedom of expression and give an environment where the media can operate freely.

Mr. Chisenga has advised the ruling Party leadership to emulate the former Movement for Multi- party Democracy (MMD) who did not interfered with the operation of the media but it accorded the playing level field to opposition including the then PF.

He is urging government to immediately stop intimidating the media and restore the free flow of information.
