Drop in inflation no guarantee cost of living will reduce- CSPR

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) says a reduction in inflation rate does not guarantee a reduction in the cost of living.

CSPR Executive Director Patrick Nshindano says the reduction in inflation rate can only translate into reduced cost of living by promoting the production of local products.

He says the promotion of locally produced goods will in turn create employment for the local people living in poverty as it is ideal when there is currency devaluation as is the case with Zambia.

Mr Nshindano states that local production will reduce pressure on the treasury and also be able to invest in key social programmes necessary for mitigating external shocks.

He has since emphasized on the need to diversify the economy by promoting and reducing on the importation of food commodities which are mostly needed by the poor and make them accessible.
