Govt urged to ensure 2017 budget addresses hike in fuel prices

Government has been called upon to ensure the 2017 national budget addresses the impact of the recent increase in fuel pump prices on the people.

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has particularly called on government to ensure it offers relief to workers through taxes.

ZCTU president Chishimba Nkole says his union expects government to increase the tax exemption threshold from the current K3,000 to something meaningful.

Mr. Nkole says this is what will enable workers to have sufficient disposable income to match up with the increased cost of living in the country triggered by the hike in fuel prices.
