ZICTA to deactivate all unregistered SIM Cards
The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) says all unverified and unregistered sim cards will by midnight tonight be disconnected.
ZICTA Acting director for support services Edgar Mulauzi explains that subscribers who will be deactivated are those whose registration documents are unclear and those whose signatures seemed to have slightly changed over time.
He says sim card registration is one of the measures that ensure the protection of consumers on mobile networks as well as promoting user accountability.
Mr. Mulauzi explains that the process of registering sim cards was conducted in accordance with the registration of electronic communication apparatus regulation and sim card registration business rules developed by ZICTA in consultation with the service providers.
He adds that the sim verification process is aimed at protecting the rights and interests of the consumers.
