The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has called on government to pay all the farmers who supplied their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) for them to adequately prepare for the coming farming season.

CSPR Executive Director Patrick Nshindano says one of the things that President Edgar Lungu has been advocating for is a policy shift in the agriculture sector and thus the need to help farmers if the sector is to be enhanced.

Mr. Nshindano says even in the Seventh National Development Plan, it is clear that the attention should be on promoting agricultural activities in the country.

He says what is worrying is the fact that farmers are not helped by the government who are at the center of the growth of the agriculture sector.

Mr. Nshindano reminds the government that the farming season is just around the corner and that this is the right time for the farmers to adequately plan for the coming season which he says is around the corner.

He notes that for the farmers to plan well, government must pay all the remaining farmers who have not been paid after supplying the maize to the agency.
