Museveni urges Zambians to maintain peace

Visiting Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has encouraged Zambians to remain and maintain peace saying many countries envy Zambia’s peaceful nature.

Speaking at State House this afternoon during the commemorations of Zambia’s 52nd Independence anniversary, President Museveni says no one should deceive the people of Zambia not to remain peaceful saying it will not benefit the nation in anyway.

President Museveni has also praised Zambia for the role the nation played in the liberation struggle for other African countries.

He says the spirit of Pan Africanism is critical and critical for the survival of Africans.

He also notes that the unemployment challenge that affects many African countries can be addressed by increasing production in all sectors of the economies.

President Museveni says African must stand ready to defend herself for the sole purpose of the promotion of peace and unity in the region.

Speaking earlier President Edgar Lungu says it is his firm belief that now, more than ever before, there is need for greater collaboration among African countries to seek and find African solutions to the urgent and unique challenges that they face after so many decades of political independence.

President Lungu points out that these challenges include high unemployment levels amongst the youth; unpredictable weather patterns resulting from climate change; poor mobilization of local resources, and various isolated conflicts within the region.

He says Zambia, therefore, looks forward to the continued cooperation in areas of mutual interest with the government of Uganda.

President Museveni has since returned back to Uganda this afternoon.
