Think of the people, UNIP advises govt ahead of IMF bailout

The United National Independence Party (UNIP) has advised the PF government to think about the people of Zambia before making any decision on the IMF bailout programme.

UNIP Secretary General Reverend Alfred Banda says IMF programmes do not promote growth and equality.

Reverend Banda explains that during the time UNIP was in government, the party discontinued the IMF programme because it was affecting the country’s economy and putting a lot of pressure and stress on the citizens.

He says it will be wrong for the nation to embrace policies which will affect a common citizen negatively.

Reverend Banda says already, many Zambia cannot afford the current high cost of living which has been compounded by the recent increase in fuel prices.
