Bus fares hiked

Bus fares for all routes in Lusaka have been increased by K1.00 effective next week Tuesday, 25^th October, 2016.

This follows the recent increase in fuel pump prices after government decided to remove fuel subsidies.

Road transport and safety agency Fredrick Mubanga has confirmed to QFM the increase in bus fares.

Mr Mubanga says the bus fares have been increased by 25 percent.

Burt bus drivers in Lusaka have rejected the new bus fares released by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).

Some Minibus drivers talked to have complained to QFM that the increase by K1.00 is not fair to them considering the amount by which fuel has been increased

They have since demanded that government allows them to increase bus fares by K2.00.

And Commuters have equally complained that the increase in bus fares is a on their wallets.

They have complained that the seemingly never-ending increase in bus fare does not result in improved service delivery.
Meanwhile the Commuters Rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) President, Aaron Kamuti has called on bus drivers not to rush in effecting new bus fares but wait for next week Tuesday when they will take effect.
