Police retrieves body from Ngwenya Dam

Police in Lusaka have retrieved a body of a male person aged between 20 and 25 which was found floating on Ngwenya Dam by members of the public yesterday,10th October, 2016 around 09:20 hours.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says the body was found with a swollen face and was bleeding from the nose.

She says the victim is believed to have been murdered by unknown people and later thrown into the dam.

Ms. Katongo says Investigations into the matter have since been instituted.

She has since appealed to members of the public who could be missing a relative to visit the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary where the body was deposited awaiting identification and postmortem.

In another development Police in Solwezi have arrested Peter Kamatongo and Elizabeth Nyambi both of Wisdom Compound for allegedly having murdered Alfred Mulundano aged 35 of Katwamba village, Chief Kasempa of Kasempa District.

It is alleged that between 8th October around 15:00 hours and 10th October, 2016 around 13:30 hours, the duo allegedly assaulted the deceased using kicks and a bamboo stick thereby sustaining injuries.

Ms. Katongo explains that the victim was rushed to Solwezi General Hospital the same day where he was admitted and later died on the 10th October, 2016 around 13:30 hours.

She says the suspects have been charged with murder and will appear in court soon while the body of the deceased is in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary.

In a similar development, in Luapula Province, Police have arrested a man identified as Levy Mwewa for allegedly having attacked and attempted to kill his father Joseph Mumba aged 54 of Mpunduka Village in Mansa after he set ablaze the house in which the victim was sleeping.

Ms. Katongo explains that the victim sustained burns on both shoulders.

She says the suspect is in Police custody and will appear in court soon.
