UPND condemns arrest of its leaders

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has condemned the arrest of its leader Hakainde Hichilema and party vice president for administration Geoffrey Mwamba by Police in Luanshya yesterday.

UPND Lusaka Province Chairman Bob Sakahilu has told QFM News that it is unfair for the Police to harass their leaders over tramped up charges.

Mr Sakahilu says the party is saddened with the manner Police are handling its leaders.upnd

And UPND provincial trustee Masando Pembela has accused the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) of being behind the arrest of the party leaders.

Ms Pembela says the arrest of the UPND leaders has cast a dark cloud over Zambia.

Yesterday, Police in Luanshya arrested UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his vice president Geoffrey Mwamba and charged them with unlawful assembly and conducting themselves in a manner likely to disturb public peace.
