Africa should rise, promote unity – Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says there is need for African countries to rise above their divergent and conflicting views and prioritise the unity and progression of the continent.

Speaking when he met African members of the of the Diplomatic corps in Zambia at State house today, President Lungu says rather than castigating or shunning each other, there is need to encourage one another by providing checks and balances in an effort to steer respective nations towards higher levels of political, economic and social progress in tandem with the African Union agenda 20163.

He has encouraged the diplomats to utilize the open door policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase interaction with government and other relevant institutions.

President Lungu says the PF government wants to ensure it works closely with other African countries in the next five years in view of the renewed mandate the Zambian people have given the Patriotic Front.

He says Zambia is committed to sharing experiences in order to not only overcome the challenges faced by various African countries, but to maximize the opportunities that abound due to the abundant resources in individual countries.

President Lungu notes the need to promote intra-African collaboration which will in turn guarantee a better life for the people.

He states that challenges the continent faces must be turned into opportunities for fostering friendship, peace, and prosperity not only in Africa, but throughout the world.

President Lungu has since implored the African diplomats to explore new areas of cooperation between Zambia and their individual countries as this will undoubtedly, pave way for increased trade and meaningful economic, social and cultural cooperation.
