CSPR opposes creation of four more Ministries

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has opposed plans by President Edgar Lungu to create four more new ministries considering Zambia’s current economic position.

CSPR Information and Communications Officer Maxson Nkhoma tells QFM News via telephone that in as much as his organization advocates for job creation in order to reduce the poverty levels in the country, the current economic situation is not conducive to create more ministries.

Mr. Nkhoma says the Head of State must be thinking of reducing the number of ministers going by the country’s economic situation.

He has since advised President Lungu to wait until Zambia’s economic situation has stabilized before creating more ministries.

Mr Nkhoma states that the creation of new ministries should not be a way to award those worked hard during the election campaigns.

He notes that with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expected to visit the country in October, such decisions may work against the conditions that will be imposed by the Brentwood institution in helping to resuscitate Zambia’s economy.
