All unregistered SIM Cards to be disconnected

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) says all unregistered Sim Cards will be disconnected by 31st October,2016, the deadline for Sim Card verification and registration.

ZICTA Director Support Services Mofya Chisala says the Authority is currently working with the three mobile service providers to conduct a clean-up of registered SIM cards to address incorrect and incomplete information.

Speaking during the relaunch of the last mile sim card verification in Lusaka today, Mr. Chisala called on all subscribers to visit their network providers and verify their sim card registration status before 31st October to avoid being disconnected.

And Speaking at the same event, Airtel Zambia Managing Director Peter Correia disclosed that 90, 000 of the 4. 7 million Airtel subscribers are not registered.

And Speaking earlier, MTZ Zambia Chief Executive Officer Charles Molapisi says all its 5.4 million subscribers are registered, with only some particulars on their National Registration Cards being incorrect.

Mr. Molapis says it is for this reason that the mobile network is encouraging its customers to verify their details and avoid being de-registered.

Meanwhile ZAMTEL Chief Technical Officers Sydney Mupeta has called on all Zamtel customers to go and verify their registration status once called to do so.
