The Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) says government should come out more clearly on what it intends to do to restructure the country’s economy.

The EAZ wants to know how exactly government, in restructuring the economy, will attain macro-economic stability.

In an interview with QTV News, EAZ president Chrispin Mphuka says his Association feels more details need to be given especially in view of the IMF economic recovery programme.

Dr. Mphuka says his Association has noted that the source of macroeconomic instability which include high inflation and an unstable exchange rate has been the fiscal deficit.

He states that if therefore government can show clearly that it can try to control the fiscal side of the economy, then monetary policy can be loosened a bit and interest rates can come down.

Dr. Mphuka says this is what the EAZ thinks must be dealt with in a much more definite way.

He says he is thus disappointed that the meeting that the Zambia Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) held yesterday with the Ministers of Finance, Commerce and National planning did not discuss this issue in detail.
